By: Tom Ditto On September 7, 2003 the Susan G. Komen
Breast Cancer Foundation held its 13th annual Komen San Francisco Race for the Cure.
Breast cancer will kill over 4,000 women in the State of California this year alone.
This event is an opportunity to raise support, awareness and funds to fight this
disease. The CCBA is very proud to be part of the San Francisco Race that hosts
over 10,000 individuals either entering the race or simply attending the Race
Exposition and joining the Race Day festivities.
The CCBA has hosted a booth at the race for the last four years. The booth proudly
displays the sign of the association and volunteers from our group hand out
cheese portions, recipes, butter coupons, and magnets. This year a few of our
member companies donated over 6000 items that were an important part of our booth
and the overall event. Thank yous go out to Boggeri Sales & Marketing, Challenge
Dairy Products, Inc., John J. Wollak Company, Inc., Lifeline Food Company, Inc.,
Masson Cheese Corporation, Pacific Cheese Company, Inc., Sonoma Cheese Factory,
Saputo Cheese USA Inc., and Tillamook Food Sales, Inc. for their support of items.
Special thanks also goes out to Linda Viegas of Churny Company Inc. who donated her
Sunday morning to come out and be part of the event by handing out these items.

United Agribusiness League, founded in 1980, is a multi commodity non-profit
agricultural trade association. The League has become the catalyst to unite
all sectors of the agricultural industry by providing economic solutions and
benefits. Financial services for agribusiness employers are provided through
the California Agribusiness Credit Union (established in 1936). CACU
(nearly 7,000 members strong) originally began as the Challenge Dairy Credit
Union.
Some of the other employer benefits are:
California Roster & Government Guide
An exclusive benefit UAL provides is the United Agricultural Benefit Trust.
Established in 1983, UABT is recognized as the premier health care plan
exclusively for agricultural employers. Managed by a Board of Trustees,
made up of industry leaders, UABT is not an insurance company, but rather
an ag employer's health care "co-op" that operates on a non-profit basis for
the exclusive benefits of its participants.

An additional key benefit is United Agribusiness Insurance Services, a fully owned subsidiary of UAL. UAIS provides risk management solutions for agricultural loss exposures. By combining loss control with insurance products, UAIS is able to achieve the appropriate balance between price and protection.
For detailed information on any one of the League's benefits, please feel
free to contact UAL's Director of Member Services, Donna Bares at (800) 223-4590.
![]() 2003 - 2004 CHEESE BLOCK MARKET FORECASTHere is our updated formula-driven block market forecast based on Class III milk futures closing prices of September 26, 2003:
Obviously, blocks are in balance with the price stuck at $1.60 for 6 weeks and counting. It does not appear that the market has the legs to climb higher, however. Milk production rallied a bit, surprisingly, this summer but the herd definitely continues to shrink. Longer term, the question remains if typical productivity gains will offset the lower cow numbers.
|
|
Meanwhile, retail cheese sales continue to post small year-to-year gains
and the foodservice sector is finally recovering. The futures market
predicts a typical fourth quarter decline in the block market, but no
crash is in sight. Supply and demand fundamentals would appear to
support continuing strong prices.
