Congratulations to Gretl Winter, of UC Davis Department of Food Science and Technology, who is the recipient of CCBA’s $2,000 scholarship.

LIKE TO JOIN A CREDIT UNION?

Come to the May convention and hear about the new opportunities available to all CCBA members. The CCBA Board of Directors has negotiated with the California Agribusiness Credit Union to allow all CCBA member companies to join the California Credit Union based in Southern California. At our convention, a representative from CABU will present the features and benefits of their credit union. After the presentation, they will have a table for prospective member companies to sign up or learn more about what is offered. Do not miss this opportunity to join and receive strong financial returns on your savings, automatic payroll deductions and more!

CCBA’S HOLIDAY LUNCHEON

On December 4, 2002, 27 CCBA members and their spouses met at Disneyland's private restaurant, Club 33, to celebrate the holidays and catch up on recent association events. After a fantastic buffet lunch, a short business meeting took place starting with the introduction of our new CCBA board members, Sean McFaul and Terry Fyffe. Tom Ditto then gave a brief recap of the organization’s October participation in the "Race for the Cure" in San Francisco, followed by Lisa Waters’ 2003 convention update, May 1-4 in Monterey. Barry Zuroff closed the meeting with a recap of CCBA’s September 2002 participation in the L.A. County Fair thanking all of the companies that donated their time and products to make the fair sampling a big success. Barry also asked for the membership’s participation again next year.

All in all everyone had a great time at the holiday luncheon, so much so that plans are in works to make it an annual event. The board hopes to have 2 luncheons a year, one in Southern California, and one in Northern California so that everyone will have the opportunity to participate.

CCBA Board Member’s Resignation

Judy Norton, who has been on the CCBA Board of Directors since 1991, has resigned. Judy was a very active member on the board. She worked on 3 CCBA cheese tasting committees, chaired the cheese tasting event in 1989, served on 4 convention committees, was the convention chairperson in 1992, and served as scholarship chairperson since 1998. See Judy’s comments below:

I would like to say that I have been proud to work with the professionals who have committed their time and knowledge to making the CCBA the re-energized organization that it is today. I have gained a tremendous amount both professionally and personally from CCBA interactions. I am not retiring from the CCBA, only from the Board of Directors, to make room for new members with fresh ideas. I look forward to remaining an active contributing member of this great Association.

Best wishes to you Judy. We will miss you!

Please join us in welcoming our new 2 new Board members – Sean McFaul and Terry Fyffe.

Sean McFaul and his wife Brenda live in Southern California and have five children. Sean started in the food industry in 1990 with Tama Trading as a Sales Representative. He became employed by BelGioioso in February, 1993 and worked foodservice and retail for the West Coast as a Regional Manager. Sean left BelGioioso in 1998 and joined Lactalis as a Regional Manager for 2 years. He then rejoined BelGioioso 3 years ago as the National Sales Manager.

Terry Fyffe and his wife Donna live in Southern California. They have 4 children and 11 grandchildren. Terry started in the food business at 15, with the Alpha Beta Grocery Company where he spent the next 6 years moving up the ladder. After a short stint as a policeman for the City of Orange, Terry joined Albertson's as a Department Manager. Terry moved on to Rod's Food Products in direct sales and was then promoted to Regional Manager. The next stop was Early California Foods as an Account Manager.

Terry then started his own business - Galaxy Food Brokers with two partners. After 17 successful years, Galaxy was sold to Bradshaw Company where Terry spent the next 4 years as Vice President.

Upon completing his obligation to Bradshaw, one of Terry's clients, The Churny Company, appointed him to the position of Vice President of the Western Division where he has worked for the past 8 years.
