For more information call Jean Hendrix, convention chairperson at 800.637.7262

The Association also maintains a scholarship fund for annual awards to students in dairy related studies at California Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo or University of California in Davis. This scholarship was recently named The W. Douglas Johnstone Scholarship in honor of Doug who was our chairperson for many years and passed away in 1996. Each year we award a $1000.00 scholarship. The HISTORY of the California Cheese & Butter Association, from its founding in the early part of this century to the present day, parallels the evolution of quality dairy products in California. One of the first actions of a small band of cheese manufactures and state and university officials, meeting in the Oakland Auditorium Building on October 30, 1923, was to declare war on sub-standard cheese products. Their declared goal: to introduce uniformly high standards to the cheese industry.

That meeting marked the first time in this country that industry, government and university representatives had joined forces to pursue a common goal. In 1940, when the organization incorporated and changed its name from the California Cheese Association to the California Cheese & Butter Association, that sense of partnership remained.

Today’s CCBA, representing companies from all over the world, has expanded to include all segments of the cheese and butter industry - manufacturing, sales, promotion and distribution.

Jean Hendrix of Masson Cheese Corporation has been promoted to Vice President!! Congratulations!!!! She is California Cheese & Butter Associations 1st Vice President and will be our President in 1999.
