2009 CCBA Annual Convention Dairy Gold Rush
Only in San Francisco

The 44th annual CCBA convention was held May 7 – 9, 2009 at the historic Westin Saint Francis Hotel in San Francisco.

The weekend began with Thursday’s welcome reception where attendees enjoyed connecting with colleagues and sampled many of the donated cheeses and butters. Guests were free to have dinner on their own that evening.

After opening comments, Friday’s business session began with Mac Moore’s/Chateaux Cheese Corporation presentation of the annual cheese report. Bud Tuohy/Challenge Dairy Products, Inc. followed with an update on butter and Judy Norton/Norseland Inc. covered membership news. Marc Beck/U.S. Dairy Export Council discussed “Global Opportunities for Butter and Cheese”. Dave Bennett/Founder, Mollie Stones, talked about the Mollie Stones’ business, and Rusty Areias/California Strategies discussed California legislature. Friday evening’s “north beach style” dinner was enjoyed by all, and the group adjourned to Club Fugazi for a Beach Blanket Babylon performance.

Saturday’s business meeting continued with an update on CCBA finances by the Treasurer, Jennifer Mullen. Gayle De Caro/Gelson’s Markets talked about consumer trends. Nicole Wiggins/IRI gave a presentation on the Current Trends for the Dairy Market Place. Robert Grauer/Blue Coupe Partners spoke about private label business. Drs. Christine and John Bruhn spoke about nutrition in the dairy industry.

The Saturday evening gala dinner was held in the beautiful Saint Francis suite, and included a silent auction, awards and special music by Mike Levy. Bob Constantino/Roth Kase USA Ltd. was honored as the 2009 CCBA Hall of Fame inductee. Drs. Christine and John Bruhn were honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Bud Tuohy and Tom Ditto accepted the Company of the Year Award on behalf of Challenge Dairy Products, Inc.
